These Indian art rocks are over 10,000 years old. They were
made by the Anasazi long before the Indians that live here now. They are located
not far from Reno but are very unknown....sorry I'm not going to give the exact
location. I've never seen so much rock art in one place, its astounding. The BLM
does not mark this spot on maps...they don't want any one to know where its at.
These photos will
be posted in 2 weeks. Check back for some of the most interesting and varied
rock art you have ever seen. There are over 1000 petroglyphs in the short
canyon. We are ready to go back at any time now. We have discovered another road
but we will return the way we came out. Its about a 14 mile round trip, some of
the road is the worst...strictly 4 wheel drive.
Photos will be coming soon. Check back in a couple of
weeks...I think we will be going there within that time.
UPDATE on first trip
Well we were stopped by nature.
We will be going back in a few weeks.....were learning a better way to get there
and we think we can cross the creek if its still has running water in it...it
was boggy in places.
We weren't very far from the canyon but we were
stopped by a
road with a creek running thru it. The road has changed since we were there
about 10 years ago. I don't remember crossing here last time but were on the
right road. Maybe give it another try at the end of Summer. This was
the absolute most awful road I've ever been on. Rocks, rocks and more rocks. the
road is terrible.
Unknown to us we were only a few hundred yards away.
Center of Photo on the ground behind a bush is a huge eagle/owl.
Its the biggest
I've seen in many years. We couldn't get any closer.
2nd Trip September 16, 2005 Photos
Got lots of photos, 165 to be
exact, what a trip. About 4 miles of the
absolute worst 4 wheel drive road you can imagine.
Some double photos but usually just a little different view.
every once in awhile you can see where some fool has tried
to scratch their names into the rocks. Not even close to the real thing.
Al tho these rocks are only about 7 miles off paved road NO ONE goes
there or even know about them....very few people know of these. I've taken
a lot of photos of the cliffs....that's where all the rock art first started
out...
its fallen down from where it originally was. Up at the cliffs are un believable
art works. a huge frog and just a lot of stuff. I am just to old to walk that
far up the
hill...its rocky as hell and very unsafe walking....I've got a bloody elbow to
prove it LOL
Well Enjoy what you will never
be able to see on your own.
There are over 2,000 rock art pictures here. I took photos of only the easiest
ones to get to.
